The Trust was established in December 1999 for the following purposes:

To preserve the historical, architectural and constructional heritage that exists in and around the Ruins of the Bishop's Palace at Fetternear for the benefit of the general public, and future generations.

To continue the current archaeological and other research into the early history of the site and the lives of the Leslies and others connected with it.

To provide an organisation to ensure the long term viability of the project and to bring together the appropriate skills and resources to achieve it.

Feasibility Study .

A feasibility study, funded by the Architectural Heritage Fund, Scottish Enterprise Grampian and Scottish Natural Heritage, has been completed recently and has indicated that the above aims are realisable. It's conclusion states:

The historic landscape, archaeological site and the ruins of the mansion are a rare amalgamation of evolving history and are an important part of Scotland's historical heritage which should be preserved for future generations.

The Outline Proposals, to be carried out in phases.
